In a Creative Rut? Here are Six Fun Ideas to Get Those Creative Juices Flowing!

Happy Monday, sweet Dolls! How is it halfway through the month already?! Can you believe it’s been a WHOLE year since miss Rona’ decided to hit us with that whirlwind?? And a year later… here we are! Before we get into today's blog, we just wanted to remind you that we are truly so blessed to hold onto our wonderful clients and business BFF’S — you Dolls are the REAL MVP’S!

This week, I wanted to talk to you Dolls about creativity. Have you ever had a fun project that you were SO excited to start on but you catch yourself having a creative block? Yeah, we get it... it happens to us, too!

When you're in the creative industry, you are constantly exercising the artistic side of your brain. When you spend so much time working on creative projects, it’s easy to burn out! We know you’ve heard about burn out, and if you’re in a creative industry like we are, it’s important to take care of yourself mentally so you can stay creative and on top of your game! Today, we're going to share six fun ideas to help you get your creative mojo back!

  1. Word Webs

Word webs can be your new secret weapon! To create a word web, take a sheet of paper, write out a main word in the middle, and then come up with at least six other words that relate to the main word. For example, your main word could be "ART.” You would write that in the center, then think of six different words that pertain to "ART.: Those words can include painting, drawing, tattoos, craft, poetry, and model. From there, you would then come up with six other words that relate to your NEW six words! Once you get your brain going, there is sure to be at least one word that will spark an idea for your next creative project!

2. Group Brainstorm

Your peers are one of the most important resources when it comes to creativity! Bouncing ideas off of each other can lead to something monumental. Sometimes it only takes two people to create a mastermind! For example, Revolve. Revolve is an online designer retail store founded by Michael Mente and Mike Karanikolas. The two met while working for a software company back in 2002. Theny collaborated and started their own company that we all know and love — Revolve! Dolls, that could be you and your peers next! Be open-minded to others' ideas — you never know where it can lead. Some people think the bigger the group, the better. But actually, we think quite the opposite! Here at POSH PR®, we are an intimate team, and to be honest, we wouldn’t want it any other way!

3. Travel

Now Dolls, before you freak out and think to yourselves, "I can't travel, especially during times like this!" Or, "I can't afford to travel, it's too expensive." We totally get it, Dolls! You're not wrong. But what we can suggest is to travel LOCALLY! Sometimes a stay-cation is all you need to refresh your creativity. Hit up your girlfriends and plan a day trip in your area! Go to a nearby beach, downtown to the city, or hike a trail! When you're in a new environment, you stimulate your mind with all of the new ideas, feelings, and possibilities.

Something we also love doing is checking out new boutique shops. You get to browse the latest trends while supporting local business! When you shop locally, talk with the owner and hear about their story and what brought them to where they are today. Sometimes hearing someone else’s journey can inspire your next big idea!

4. Music and Arts Entertainment

One of the most popular (and easiest) ways to get rid of a creative block is music and arts entertainment! Music is everything. It can bring a crowd of strangers together to instantly feel a connection. Feel the melody, enjoy the powerful vocals, and listen closely to the lyrics. Lyrics tell a powerful story, and that’s a different form of storytelling than blogging and creating content!

Another fun activity we love to use to get inspired is watching movies! To help with a creative block, watch a movie you wouldn't normally watch, and try to digest and understand the director's point-of-view.

Lastly, head to an art museum! Art museums are full of creative vibes and powerful energy. There’s somethign so invigorating about walking through a museum alone and taking your time to enjoy what moves you. Give this a try — it's always interesting to understand the eye of an artist!

5. Social Media

This one is a given! Social media is the quick go-to for inspiration. We are constantly seeing new ideas on our feed, but have you ever thought about why you follow certain people on social media? It’s probably because of their creativity!

For instance, TikTok is one of the most popular social media apps — people can't seem to get enough of it! TikTok has almost every single niche you could think of. Whether you’re looking for fashion, music, comedy, sewing, traveling, or photography, there’s something for you on TikTok! When you find a creator that you love, you instantly feel connected. You can take inspiration from their work to start creating your own! You can add your own spice to any trend and make it an original! (But that's another story we can get into for another day!)

6. Take a Break

Sometimes you just need to take a breather. Getting fresh air is also a great way to clear your head. Breathe in and let your mind do the wandering. You don't always need to be doing something to get your next big idea. Sometimes they just appear out of thin air (see what we did there Dolls!)

There are SO many fun activities you can do to get your creative juices flowing! You can dress up, have a photoshoot, cook something you've never cooked before, sew a funky dress, or even play with paint! The point is, Dolls… go out and do something that isn't necessarily "creative" but let the creativity come to you!
